Symptoms of actinic keratosis
Actinic keratosis is a variable number of flat plaques with a diameter of 3-10 mm, a reddish, flaky, scaly surface, causing no complaints. It develops In elderly people on the areas most exposed to the sun, i.e. on the face, bald scalp, ear lobes, forearms, and backs of hands. Actinic keratosis is the reaction of epidermal cells to repeated, intense UV-B light exposure. Pre-tumor condition: after 2-3 years in 10% of the cases the cells begin to proliferate and squamous cell carcinoma develops.
Removal of actinic keratosis is necessary to prevent malignant tumor formation.
